Former US president set to meet Buhari & Atiku ahead of 2019 elections
Former president of the United States of America (USA), Bill Clinton, is reportedly planning to visit Nigeria ahead of the forthcoming February 16 presidential election.
Premium Times reports that Clinton is expected to arrive in Nigeria a day before the presidential election.
The newspaper adds that the deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, Yekini Nabena, said he was aware of the intended visit, adding that it was not an official visit.
He said: “Mr Clinton’s visit is not an official visit, it has no consequence to the party.
I am aware that President (Donald) Trump did not even direct him to come and discuss any matter with President Buhari.” “Maybe he (Clinton) just wants to visit (President) Buhari as a former president as he has no ‘influence’ or anything to do with the government.”

The former US president Clinton will reportedly meet with President Muhammadu Buhari who is the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The report adds that Clinton would leave Nigeria for the US the same day after the meetings to allow the two political leaders cast their votes. President Buhari will be voting in his home state Katsina state, Daura local government area, while his closest rival Atiku will vote in Ganye local government area of Adamawa state.
Meanwhile, the United States ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, has called for peace during the February 2019 general elections, adding that Nigeria must move out mass to perform their civic duty and make sure that their votes count.

Symington made this known on Tuesday, February 5, during a video broadcast, which was also published on the verified official Twitter handle of the US.
Symington, who said the elections must be free and credible, warned that the world will be watching Nigeria, hence calling for unity and sense of patriotism during elections.
