Atiku presents 5-point demand to Buhari – warns of tension in the land
A 5-point demand has been presented to the Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the just concluded presidential election.
The former vice president presented his demands to the president during a meeting with a delegation led by the former head of state and chairman of the National Peace Committee (NPC), General Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd), Vanguard reports.
Atiku, who met Abdulsalami in the presence of his running mate, Peter Obi, and other PDP chieftains, warned that tensions are building up in the land.

He reportedly demanded for the following:
- Unfreezing of bank accounts belonging to opposition politicians.
- Demilitarization of subsequent elections.
- Accreditation of voters before voting in subsequent elections.
- INEC should open its back end server to all participating parties.
- Release of all politicians detained illegally by the federal government.
Atiku stated that the February 23 elections were the worst in the country since the return to democratic rule as the exercise was marred by brazen rigging with no consideration for the people’s will.
He reportedly listed the issues with the elections as follows:
- Unconstitutional deployment of the military which was in breach of a Supreme Court judgement.
-
Malpractice between INEC officials, the ruling party and the military to undermine the votes/voters of the PDP.
-
Collaboration between the federal government and INEC to undermine the sanctity of the votes of the people.
-
The malpractices show that there was no improvement from 2015.
Abdulsalami and his team reportedly pleaded with Atiku to avoid anything that would jeopardize the peace of the nation.
The NPC is expected to meet the Buhari government with the demands.
One major reason for Atiku’s confidence is the alleged wide-ranging availability of video evidence to back up his claims of non-voting, voter intimidation, ballot box snatching and destruction, illegal vote cancellation and deliberate voter disenfranchisement.
An associate to the presidential candidate said the PDP prepared in advance for the APC’s rigging by sending agents with hidden cameras to the field.
