Ansu Fati, a teenage Barcelona prodigy, has taken over Lionel Messi’s number 10 shirt after the Argentine icon moved to PSG in France
After suffering a ruptured meniscus in a game over Real Betis in November 2020, the 18-year-old forward, a product of the club’s renowned La Masia academy, has been out of play.
However, since financial concerns prohibited Barcelona from offering Messi a new deal, Ansu Fati will take over the legendary shirt when he returns, according to the club.

Fati, regarded as one of the most promising young prospects in world football, made his Barcelona debut in August 2019 and became the club’s youngest player to score in La Liga a week later in a 2-2 draw with Valencia.
The official statement from Barcelona reads; “Ansu Fati has a new shirt number.
After wearing the number 22 then 17, the young Barça striker will proudly wear the number 10 shirt – a famous jersey previously worn by legends such as Leo Messi, Ronaldinho and Rivaldo.
” Messi himself inherited the No 10 shirt from Ronaldinho after his departure in 2008.
