Ohanaeze Ndigbo President Azuta Mbata
Chief John Azuta Mbata, a former senator who represented Rivers East in the National Assembly, has been appointed President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, the Igbo highest socio-cultural organisation.
On January 11,2025 Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo General Assembly meeting, which took place at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu, Mbata was chosen.
He succeeds Nze Ozichukwu Chukwu, who was chosen to serve out the remaining years of the late Imo State Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s term.
In the election, which was observed by the governors of the states of Enugu, Imo, and Anambra as well as Senators Chris Ngige, Ben Obi, and Victor Umeh, among other Igbo dignitaries, he was elected by consensus.
The new Secretary General of the Igbo group is Chief Emeka Sibeidu of Anambra State, while Prince Okey Nwadinobi of Abia State was elected National Deputy President.

Okey Ugwu from Ebonyi State was chosen as the National Legal Advisor, Ezechukwu Ezechi from Imo State as the National Publicity Secretary, and Chidera Anieke from Enugu State as the National Treasurer.
Delta State and others are given the role of Deputy Secretary General.
Speaking on behalf of the incoming executive, Mbata expressed gratitude to the departing President-General for his abilities to organise elections and exercise leadership.
