Anthony Rendon Biography

An American third baseman with the Los Angeles Angels of Major League Baseball, Anthony Michael Rendon was born on June 6, 1990. (MLB). He formerly played for the Washington Nationals, and he was a part of the Nationals’ squad who defeated his hometown Houston Astros in the 2019 World Series.

Rendon won the 2010 Dick Howser Trophy while playing collegiate baseball for the Rice University Owls. The Nationals selected Rendon with the sixth overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft.

2013 saw Rendon’s MLB debut. He has won the Silver Slugger Award twice and was an All-Star.

Early Life / Career

Rendon, the second son of Rene and Bridget Rendon, was born young. According to his parents, Rendon began playing baseball at a very young age, hitting pine cones with sticks as young as three.

Rendon, who grew up on Houston’s southwest side and achieved scholastic and athletic success,  excelled in baseball, basketball, track and field.

Rendon attended George Bush High School for the first two and a half years of high school before moving to Lamar High School.

He was named to the Houston Chronicle’s All-Greater Houston squad after hitting as a senior and was named to the first team of the 5A all-state shortstops. 8 home runs, 17 doubles, 56 runs batted in, 56 runs, and 13 stolen bases for a total of 570. The Atlanta Braves selected Rendon in the 27th round of the Major League Baseball Draft after he graduated from high school.

In order to play for Rice University and head coach Wayne Graham, he declined their signing bonus.

Personal life

Many people, including 2016–17 Nationals manager Dusty Baker, have dubbed Rendon one of the most “underrated” players in Major League Baseball due to his quiet and modest demeanor as well as his great overall offensive and defensive performance as an infielder for the Washington Nationals.

During spring training in 2017, Rendon spoke with The Washington Post about his baseball philosophies and said, “Obviously, I want to win, but at the same time, it’s a game and that’s what I’m going to treat it as.

In a 2014 interview with the Post, he stated that he finds baseball to be “too long and dull” and prefers to watch the History channel instead.

Rendon and his wife Amanda received their daughter as their first child on July 26, 2018.

Rendon took a few days off from the Nationals to attend to the delivery. During the off-season, they live in Katy, Texas, and in Newport Beach, California, during the active season.

Rendon, a devoted basketball fan, follows his home NBA team, the Houston Rockets. He has stayed in touch with the Houston region.

Rendon and former Nationals teammate Matt Albers, a fellow Houstonian, created a YouCaring fundraising website to raise money for donations to the Houston Food Bank in the wake of Hurricane Harvey in August 2017.

Rendon identifies as a Christian.

In a 2018 interview, he said: “At the end of the day, I want to be more of a Christian than a baseball player.”
