Little Richard, the rock ‘n’ roll founder who inspired generations of musicians, died at the age of 87

Richard Wayne Penniman well known as “Little Richard” suffered from hip problems, a stroke and cardiac attacks for several years.
He grew up in Macon, Georgia, in a Friendly Hill neighborhood home.

He was born as Richard Wayne Penniman on Dec. 5th, 1932 and had 11 siblings.
In a post on Instagram, band member Kelvin Holly wrote :
“Rest in peace, Richard.
This one really stings. My thoughts and prayers go out to all my bandmates and fans all over the world.
Richard truly was the king!”
The Rock singer once told Rolling Stone: “I heard Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, and that was it.
“I didn’t ever want to be anything else. I’m more of a Little Richard stylist than a Jerry Lee Lewis, I think.
Jerry Lee is a very intricate piano player and very skillful, but Little Richard is more of a pounder.”
Hit such as “Good Golly Miss” and “Tutti Frutti,” was a big success in the world.
This blew Richard whose career started when he was in the middle teens.
He was known for dance movements and costumes on stage as well.
Throughout the course of the decade, the iconic singer has achieved several chart successes with songs such as
- Long Tall Sally,
- Tear It Up,
Lucille and many others that have become classics.
He performed many songs that were covered by other artists which includes
- The Everly Brothers,
- The Kinks,
- Elvis Costello,
- Elvis Presley,
- Buddy Holly,
- Bill Haley.
His songs have become a major component of rock ‘n’ roll culture.
In 1986, Little Richard was one of the first class inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
He was awarded a Lifetime Grammy Achievement and performed at the 1992 Presidential opening of Bill Clinton.
“Tutti Frutti” was added to the National Register in 2010 by the Library of Congress.
