England and Chelsea legend John Terry retires from football

Chelsea legend John Terry has announced his retirement from club football after over two decades of trophy laden career.

The 37-year-old last featured for Championship outfit Aston Villa in the 2017-18 season before hanging his boots.

He was earlier this summer tipped to join Turkish topflight side Galatasaray but the defender pulled out of the deal at the latter stage of their negotiations.

Terry spent about 19 years of his senior career at the Stamford Bridge where he won five Premier League titles.

He was also among the golden generation of the Blues squad that won the UEFA Champions League title in Germany in 2012 after beating Bayern Munich on penalties.

During his reign at the west London side, the former Nottingham Forest defender made 492 appearances and scored 41 goals in the process.

His one year spell at Aston Villa also recorded a goal in 32 matches for the lower league side – after which he refused to pen a contract extension at the club.

Terry also won five FA Cups, a three league cups and an Europa League title in more than 700 appearances for Chelsea.

He wasn’t just superb for his club side as he also scored six times in 78 appearances for the Three Lions of England.
