Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, a trailblazing Nigerian singer, was born on April 22, 1997. He successfully combined Afrofusion and Afrobeats sounds to find success in both the mainstream and Alté music scenes.

Ikuforiji, better known by his stage name Oxlade, is adored by fans for his mellow voice and songwriting talent (which combines English, Pidgin English, and Yoruba languages).

After recording and releasing Away, which was listed among Rolling Stone’s Best 50 Songs of 2020, the musician shot to fame on a global scale.

The EPs Eclipse and Oxygene by Oxlade, who was nominated for the Next Rated Artiste award at The Headies in 2020, have both been commercially successful.

Early Life

Oxlade was born and reared in the South West of Nigeria and is a member of the Yoruba tribe. He was born into the Mr. and Mrs. Abdulrahman family, thus he was raised in a Muslim home.

Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman was born on April 22, 1997, and was given the name by his parents.

Before his mother passed away, he spent his early years in his parents’ home.

He was reared by his grandmother and father when his mother passed away, and he lived with his grandmother.

Due to his middle-class upbringing, Oxlade had access to a top-notch education. He attended prestigious private schools for both his elementary and secondary studies.

He earned good scores in his Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations and graduated from high school in 2013. (SSCE).

After submitting an application, he received a scholarship from Lagos State University to study history and international relations. He spent two years in the program before leaving to concentrate on his burgeoning music career.


Being a featured artist on Blaqbonez’s hit tune Mamiwota gave Oxlade his big break in the music industry. Bizzle Osikoya, an A&R and music professional, took notice of him.

The Plug Entertainment’s co-founder, Bizzle Osikoya. He made the decision to mentor Oxlade and turn him into a music superstar.

This resulted in the agreement of management contracts with The Plug and record contracts with Troniq Music.

With the release of his solo single, Questionnaire, a national hit, Oxlade once again demonstrated to the industry what he could do. The commercial success of Questionnaire, however, pales in comparison to Oxlade’s breakthrough hit, Away.

Oxlade’s 2020 album Away, which included his soulful vocals and excellent songwriting, demonstrated his versatility.

On April 13, 2020, TG Omori, a renowned director, debuted the music video for the song. A video showing Drake listening to Away appeared in November 2020, and within a day, over 3 million fresh song streams had been generated.

One of his debut EP’s tracks, Away, reached the number 23 position on TurnTable’s Top 50 ranking for 2020. The EP was made available on March 27, 2020. And a hit tune named DKT came after it. DMW’s Dammy Twitch directed the music video for DKT, and the song’s top position on the Billboard Top Triller Global Chart was number 13.

The Oxygene EP also has the tunes “Kokose,” “Weakness,” “Tables Turn feat. Moelogo,” “Hold On,” and “02.” (the intro track).

After months of dropping hints about a follow-up project, Oxlade published his second EP, named Eclipse. One of the biggest songs of 2021, Ojuju, can be found on the EP. The song Ojuju gave the performer a second entrance on the UK Afrobeats Singles Chart and spent more than five weeks there.

A successful song by Dolapo called “Interest” featured Oxlade and Ms Banks earlier in 2021. The track was made available in January 2021. Months after collaborating with Ice Prince on the song Kolo, which was released in March 2021, he landed his second collaboration.

At the 2019 The Headies Awards, Oxlade was nominated for Rookie Of The Year. He secured a second nomination for Next Rated Artiste the following year, which he lost to colleague Omah Lay.

He was also nominated for Next Rated Artiste (Male Category) at City People Music Awards in 2020.
